The Fog is Real
It would be hard to point to anything in the last fifty years that had a bigger global impact than the Covid pandemic. And while the pandemic itself ended sometime in the last three-ish years, the fog it left behind is real. Like clinically real.
A new set of findings from the National Institute of Health suggests a 15X higher incidence in cases of something called myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (or ME/CFS for short, clinical speak for I’m f*in’ exhausted, sleep doesn’t help, and I can’t concentrate) vs. the pre-pandemic period. The biggest contributor to the increase? The study participants who had been infected with Covid-19.
What is ME/CFS? It’s the onset of fatigue that lasts for at least six months and brings with it some pretty annoying friends like lower productivity, even worse fatigue symptoms following physical or mental exertion, sleep that doesn’t refresh, and dizziness when standing.
More research is needed to understand the biological reasons as to why the fog rolls in after the infection rolls out, but if you were wondering, it’s definitely not your imagination. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, set up an appointment to discuss with your provider.
